Miss Black Rock City 2004 After Report - Contestant Biographies

Note from StacycatS:

I am so impressed by the dedication of all of the contestants - they all 'got it' and seemed to be having such a great time, as I know I was! This process has always been about the contestants: the regions, installations, theme camps, projects and/or independent spirits they represent. When it came time to announce the titles, one of the judges handed me a piece of paper with their decision on it. I looked at it, looked at them, and asked them if they were sure. They said yes. I said, "Good, because it is all I can do to read this when I get up there. I can't be making shit up right now." I looked back down at the paper. The words were definitely moving, independent of the scrap they were written on... but, I could still read! I was quite proud of this. And so it was read. Whatever.

Every once in a while someone questions the decision. The complaint is that I 'let the pretty girl win.' I do not understand this, are they saying that all my bitches aren't pretty?! Cause, I think all my bitches are beautiful. Don't you?!

FINALISTS:

Miss M-car: The Miss Playa del Fuego 2004 First Runner Up

The contest was fixed!!  But what do you expect from a pageant at Burningman? Crazy talents, sexy contestants and awesome playa wear, certainly- but a pageant that is run by the book, certainly not. So I must commend Miss Disorient, for the great job your camp  did hosting finals, running the sound, and dosing all the judges. You really earned that sash. Of course as runner up, I will always honor your achievements, unless (wink, wink) something should cast doubt on your ability to fulfill the duties of Miss BRC. In which case I, Miss *@#! will be happy to step up to the challenge. But I won't tell anyone about all the peanut shells you left in the middle of the playa.

  Love you all,
Miss Black Rock City 2004 RUNNER-UP

MBRCinfinity on the Reigning Miss PDF04 / Miss Black Rock City 2004 Runner-up: this lady got funk! She got style! She sassy and SHE SMART doctor lady! She stold my heart from the beginning - the first time I saw her at the Playa del Fuego spring 2004 regional burn. Her support and enthusiasm have always been appreciated. Always the bridesmaid - never the bride - will we see her at Flipside 05?!

Miss Adventure:

aka tomdogma
tomdogma@earthlink.net

Miss Adventure is up for all sorts of adventures and miss-adventures whether it is slicing a casaba melon open as it flies through the air with his samurai sword, or attending to the filthy needs of the MBRC judges, Miss Adventure will do it with gracelessness and with a mean spirited aplomb. As I have always said it is better to have friends then enemas.

MBRCinfinity on Miss Adventure: Sometimes, outreach works! Smudge and I found Miss Adventure while trolling for contestants one day - and what a gem we found. He's the only contestant with BALLS enough to sport Paula's creations.

Miss American Snatch / MBRC04 Best Costume Special Mention:

aka: Athena Demos
Miss American Snatch 2001
athena@athenademos.tv
www.AthenaDemos.tv

I first went to BM in 1999. Since then I have embedded myself into the community by helping to host some very large local events such as LA Decom, Burn on the 4th and others. I love bringing BM to the local community. I met the man of my dreams at BM (he was a judge for the Miss American Snatch contest, that's how we met), performed with Mutaytor for two years after that, and got engaged this year at BM during the Temple burn. And I never thought I would settle down. I love BM.

MBRCinfinity on Miss American Snatch: WOW. And I do mean: WOW. Miss American Snatch 01 totally blew me away. Definitely, do check out her website - her costume creations and talents are truly insipring. Miss American Snatch also provided me with this years favorite playa gift: a Mutaytor pendant. Look for them at Flipside 05!

Miss Slack Harder:

MaryJ - "Miss Slack Harder" Born a libra, learned how to slack over a lifetime.  See actually, when I use the word "slack", I really mean "OCD" (i.e. obsessive compulsive disorder).  As a member of the Kingdom of Slack in Austin's Burn community, I was hornswoggled into believing these people *actually* slack...not true.  These people are ALWAYS working!  They came up with the slogan, "Slack harder, not smarter," which makes sense, just in the last year, they've created a 30 foot mushroom tower that sleeps 20x, a giant monkey head entrance for their camp, THINK recycling, SlackTV and Slack Costumery, helping over 400x Flipside residents with fab clothing and costumes.  Some of my contributions included the Glitter Monkey Message Board (a mail system for slackers to message each other, old school style), a new fashion trend called the UtiliTuTu (a mix between a utility belt and tutu...functionable, yet fabulous! www.utilitutu.com) and the Denim Donut Pillow, costing only $11.82, it was made out of 21x pairs of recycled blue jeans and recycled stuffing materials, donated to the chillspace Slack Lounge! It's a sickness, I know...these people don't know when to stop. I love them.
www.oneflameinthefire.com/bestofslack So, that's my group... this is me: I sew, dance, draw, cook, create, paint, write, sing, tell great bedtime stories, love a dog named Otis, and my favorite color is blue. I also play the French horn. ~maryj

PS. Come to Burning Flipside - Memorial Day Weekend 2005 - www.burningflipside.com!  See how the slackers do it on the grassy playa...

MBRCinfinity on Miss Slack Harder: I have loved Miss Slack Harder ever since she asked me to kiss her babies for good luck before the prelims. Aw yah, baby! And she looks GREAT with a doughnut in her mouth. We look forward to connecting with her again at Flipside this spring!

Miss Electric Bubble aka Miss Illumination 2004!

aka Christopher Hardwick.

MBRCinfinity on Miss Illumination 2004: Plucked from the crowd, this KostumeKultist is up for anything illuminated!

Miss Disorient / Miss Illumination 04 Runner Up / Miss Black Rock City 04:

Playa Barbie, Miss Black Rock City 2004

Formerly Miss Disorient

Playa Barbie is an international party girl who splits her time between managing staff at her three residences and attending parties studded with tacky celebrities and international carpetbaggers.  For BM 2005, she is spearheading the effort to launch the Young Presidents Organization Camp under the hospitable auspices of Disorien4.

Miss BRC says:

"My victory in the MBRC competition was a 100% camp effort, and I owe my tiara and pierced-cabbage patch-head scepter to Disorient.  Among my heroes are Leo Villareal, who helped me make my Miss Disorient sash and sequenced my Luminex dress, Spec, who soldered the LEDs to the dress (1st runner up in the Illumination Wear event), Bacchus, who creatively (and successfully) bribed all the judges and managed to record all my costume changes on film, and Jaygo and many other Disorienters who threw the stage together in record time (THANK YOU!)   And many thanks to Stacycats and the wise MBRC Judges, one of whom (ADAM!) was kind enough to gift the top three beauty queens with a flight over the playa.  Finally and most touchingly, I would like to thank Ginger/Gingivitis for composing one hell of a soundtrack to the pageant."

In closing, I wish to state the following:

"Despite the pageant being held at my camp, and despite the judges being bribed by my campmates, I HAVE WON THIS TITLE FAIR AND SQUARE."

Ciao MBRC Eternity,

Playa Barbie

MBRC 2004

MBRCinfinity on Miss Disorient / Miss Black Rock City 04: Sweet, beautiful Miss Playa Barbie. This girl was in it from the beginning - from the prelims to the Miss Illumination 04 Special Event to Miss Black Rock City 2004, she gave it her all! And it showed. Since receiving her Miss Black Rock City 2004 title, she has been seen at both the UK 2004 decom and the NYC 2004 decom events, proudly donning her tiara and sash. Way to repraZent, girl!

Miss Tamale (Alternate):

Tamale, representing Camp Krispy Tits, was overwhelmed by her first visit to the playa where she was honored to be selected as an alternative for the Miss Black Rock City Pageant.  After being named Black Rock City's Top Stripper for performing an improvised burlesque performance, Tamale was ready for the challenge of competing for the MBRC title.  She regularly performs comedy, burlesque, and sassy numbers for the queer scene in Chicago, IL.   She is a fan of toe socks and Miracle Whip over Mayo.

MBRCinfinity on Miss Tamale: Miss Tamale was one of the two alternates who showed up the day of the main event (along with Miss Shugenah). Being an alternate is thankless work - although she did get to strut her stuff on stage with the Miss Shugenah from time to time. Thanks to both alternates for getting our backs!

Miss Sarcastic:

a.k.a. Ginette Mohr

BM 2004 was Miss Sarcastic's third and most awesome burn. Seriously. Thanks to Stacycats for her brilliant idea, Adam for the flight, and all the participants and organizers of Miss Black Rock City 2004.

When not flippin' off crowds at BM, Miss S. passes her time in Toronto. She's performed with The Second City National Touring Company, The Bad Dog Theatre Company, Vancouver Theatresports, The Verge, The Impatients, Sin City, The Edmonton Festival Ballet, Physically Speaking, Shortweird Radio and Monkey Toast, Winner of the 2004 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Improv Troupe. She's also appeared at Caroline's, Stand-Up New York, and was nominated for The Phil Hartman Comedy Award. She holds a Theatre B.F.A. from Simon Fraser University and a Theatre M.F.A. at York University. Miss S. is co-artistic director of Frightwig Theatre; their play PRND21, in which she performed and co-wrote, won 2nd runner-up in the Centaur Theatre Awards for "Best English Play".

Miss Sarcastic loves the desert and desserts.

You got something to say to her? ginettemohr@hotmail.com

Dubbed Miss Congeniality for her pleasant demeanor, this girl can flip me off anytime - and leave me asking for more!

Miss Goddess of Popcorn:

aka Miss Sincerity aka Monkey Girl

"I was born in a ... No really I was born in a big city - Chicago. Moved to Reno in 1981 after a one year detour in Minnesota at the tender age of 14. Skip ahead... 1993- got together with Popcorn Boy and began our journey of creating love and art. We started a outdoor vending business which became our store The Melting Pot World Emporium in 1996 where we sell lots of unique items from all over the world. We are forever pushing the envelope and hoping to expand the minds of our patrons in ways they haven't yet experienced. We have been the Burning Man ticket outlet for 6 maybe 7 years. A big part of our business is connecting people whether it be locals or people coming from far away.

Aside from the business I am also part of a belly dance troupe. There are 7 of us and we are Asha Belly Dancers We are a world fusion/folkloric group and have been together for 7 years. We dance a lot.

I am also part of Controlled Burn, a fire performance group. I spin poi and play with fans and fingers. There are about 20-30 of us and we all spin in the great circle at Burning Man every year. We also perform locally. Asha Belly Dancers and Controlled Burn collaborate on performances in Reno.

Eric and I have been involved with many projects at Burning Man some being of very large proportions but the project that was ours was The Midnite Popcorn Palace. We started that in 1999 with a mobile unit which consisted of a heavy cart to push, the popcorn, the oil, the giant pot, and the propane tank and burner. Oh and a tiny little hand painted banner. The next year we made a huge jump and created the palace and had a registered theme camp. It rained a bunch and our kitchen was not covered and we ended up with a mess. Even so it was popcorn to the people serving lots of kernels. The next year, 2001, we perfected the camp and it was a great success once again this time serving 525 lbs of popcorn. We decided to retire thinking that we had made it the best it could be. We also thought that things at Burning Man are of a impermanent nature and everything is not a given. That was until last year when we decided to resurrect the palace for one last time for real. It was bigger and better than ever fully equipped with a volunteer popping staff that signed up for each evenings shifts. It was adorned with lots of beautiful textiles from India and other hand painted Batiks. On the front facade which was built to look like the Taj Mahal there were the words popcorn in neon. Other neon signs were attached as well. The palace also came with the Goddess of Popcorn art car which had the goddess on top. That was a body cast of me. The car served as a popcorn delivery unit some of the time. If I am pregnant as Burning Man 2005 approaches and feel good there is a chance that I will go but not a chance that we will be setting up a huge palace and popping corn. I figure it would be a good year for me to lounge around and eat other peoples popcorn, do a little dance, make a little love and get down.

MBRCinfinity on Miss Goddess of Popcorn: this wonderful woman comes to us from Reno. Her interview answers were touching - a refreshing change from the standard 'do it for the babies and world peace' beauty queen responses!

Miss Cameltoe:

The name says A LOT - a burning man pageant would just not be the same without the likes of Miss Cameltoe. Unfortunaltey, we have no contact info for her. If you know her, please tell her to write! The Queen Mother misses her!

Miss Lahonton Korps:

aka Elsa Jaegermeister

This lady comes to us from Gigsville - the village that showed up EN MASSE in support of this lady. Ja, Ja, ze ist de besten!

Miss Burnstream 04:

This fabulous contestant also gave it his all - seen at the prelims, the Miss Illumination 04 Special Event, and the MBRC finals! Shortly after being named a finalist, it warmed my heart to see this contestant riding the back of the screaming zebra unicorn, giving the people a perfectly poised beauty queen wave!

Miss Shugenah (Alternate):

This lady can SING! Quite a talent, this one has. Much thanks for her participation.
